Probably on the CGOA site, Donrh out of VA Beach sold it to me. He's replaced the transom, and done a lot of the hard work already. Still needs new stringers and floor installed (old stuff already out), interior, and some minor cosmetic stuff.

He burned a CD of the pics documenting the restoration so far when I picked it up, fed me breakfast the morning I arrived, and treated me like family while I was there. All the hardware, trim pieces, windshield frames, etc. came with it (in boxes) as well as some supplies to get me started. First Rate guy and does great work bringin' 'em back. He did a GT-160 that looks fantastic, and several others including a hand built "DarkWater" woody he recently finished up.

Yeah, I think it'll be just the "grin generator" I'm looking for. Not looking to set any speed records, just something to buzz around in. I do have a Merc 1000 that would probably power it nicely, if I can get her running well. Considering the options at this point, that project had to go on hold to go get the GT-150.

First things first though, I've got to do some more studying up on stringer and floor replacement.....(the old rotted stuff is out already, and Don saved most of the floor pieces for patterns.) Not sure how to go about figuring out the contour to fit the stringers to the hull, any helpful suggestions appreciated greatly.

Trying to break the project down into manageable steps, considering plywood stringers, hardwood (solid), sealed in fiberglass of course, or composite. (Probably out of my price range on the composite, but that would eliminate some of the glass work, right?)

All in due time, need some cruise time on the water in the Starflite to clear my head I think.

I had a Glastron 73 0r 74 can't remember metalflake silver with wraparound bucket seats. GT-150 back in 89. Powered by a 2cylinder 60hp Evinrude. I think they only made that motor 1 year then it came out as a 50 and 55.
I took that motor off and put an 88 Evinrude 88SPL with T&T(AKA 90hp) just wasn't oil injected. Sold the 60 to a guy who put it on a pontoon. worked great for him.
I got her up to 55 with a 19" cupped prop. The water gets rough at that speed. Transom got soft, sold it. It was a fun boat.
You will enjoy it when you get her done.

Thanks Don, I plan on staying in touch with ya, you'll know when I get to the point where I need the trim piece. Still gathering supplies, (slowly), ordered a copy of "Runabout Renovation", got the nitrile gloves and respirator, picking up the tyvek suits this week, etc.. The Custom Craft sold yesterday, so I'll have funding for stinger wood, laminating resin, plywood for floor, etc. Tryin' to get my "ducks lined up" before I get started.

I would dearly love to come up and meet you guys John, and getting to get a boat wet with y'all would make it even better. Unfortunately, my budget and time constraints won't permit it this year. Hopefully next year will be a different story. Getting project supplies lined up now, hope to purchase stringer lumber this weekend and get the deck split off to begin construction.

Stringers and cross braces cut, built a set of "knees" for the transom, since I'm not sure yet what motor will be going on her. (Hopefully, the Merc 1000, but that's been back burnered until the boat is back together.)
First fitting

After I got tired of the rough edge of the fiberglass hull tearing up my hide, I figured out putting some tape over the edge helps alot! Duh.

Finally got the hull cleaned and ready for re-construction;

Applied poly resin to the stringers, one layer of Biax and cloth to the bottom of the main:

And got them bedded into the hull with PL Premium

(Didn't go too bad for a first time 'Glasser, shure kicks quick when it's 97* in the garage!)

The cross braces will come off to glass in the stringers, but wanted them to hold the stringers steady while the PL set up. That was enough for today anyway.

A great friend sent me my first "bling" for my project, I am so proud!

Thanks for the kind words guys, they help keep me going during this "ugly" part of the rebuild. Made a rookie mistake this weekend. It finally cooled off for a couple days, and I planned to get some glassing done. (The stringers are done and glassed in, but I wanted to lay some CSM and woven down between them for added strength before the floor goes down.) Ran out of resin - should have ordered more!

I guess that's how we learn, right?

Been a while since I posted any progress, 'cause it's been slow going around here. (Not for lack of trying, I assure you!)

Got the floor glued, screwed, and glassed.....

Re-fit the deck to take measurements for the ski locker / console. Cut out the pieces and covered them with csm, kick plates got woven for strength.....

Test fit and trim, test fit and trim, you get the idea

She's assembled and in, gotta wait till next weekend to glass it to the floor, out of resin again.

Thanks for the heads-up Kerry, those are my thoughts as well. I have a tach (and speedo) ready to go in the dash, and will definitely be keeping an eye on things. Gotta start somewhere, right?

From what I've heard, these hulls get a little squirrely somewhere just above 50MPH, so if I can get a smooth 50 out of her I'll be a happy man.

Just a little progress report before the deck goes back on the hull, hopefully tomorrow. Most of the "woodwork" and some areas that will be hard to access once the deck is on have been painted,

but I didn't want to paint the entire floor until I figure out and install the seating supports.

I tried out the new drain tube installation tool, using 5200 to seal it in. (Final "crank down" on the tube will take place tomorrow, after the sealant has partially cured.)

My tubing cutter is shot out, but I managed to get it done anyway. Left 3/16" past the mark for transom thickness to make the flare, looks about right;

Not bored at all Bob, just limited time and $$$ force the schedule to go at a snail's pace. Target launch date = next spring.

I considered moving my drain to the very bottom of the "V", Cal, but the PO had already drilled the new transom in the same spot the old drain was, so there it stayed. I am installing a bilge pump down in the bottom, and hope to not leave her out in the rain anyway.

I used 3/4" wide 5/16" think rubber foam tape around the deck to hull seal, so it took several hours to get them married back together yesterday! These models are prone to leaking in the stern around that joint, so I figured a few ounces of prevention was worth a pound of cure?

Totally understand, just thought I'd throw a shot out.

I'm still trying to get the Fat Fifty hot rodded, witha thread, paint its cover and get to the trailer before I start on the Century. The wife keeps throwing honey do's with priorities in front of it!

The bilge pump is a good idea, especially if you can't put the drain at the bottom of the V. The foam is a good idea also. I would have done that too. The big thing will be what's the lifespan of the foam you used. Some have a short lifespan depending on heat and moisture, like the stuff you can get for around your doors. I've seen some of that stuff break down after a couple of years, but that was in florida. I'm sure that's not as dense as the stuff you used but just an example.
