Can't get the boat wet if I can't get it to water. 8 years 4 months ago #123951

This is the hitch and neck on the trailer of my "new" 1960 Humber. There's no way it came this short so I think it's been repaired once or more.

It's cracked on both sides as well.

The question is this, the neck on my other trailer (1960 G-3) is 2 feet longer than it needs to be and has a good hitch. Money's tight so I'm wondering if I can cut the hitch off the Humber and weld this neck and hitch to that trailer ? They are the same size tubing.

If I can cut it square will it work with just a weld or should I put a couple strips of flat stock over the joint and through bolt it maybe ? Never done it so everybody knows more than I do. :)

Be nice if you could find something that would slip in side (round pipe ok )and "stub it". If not weld it up, and add both sides 1/4x 12"x2" strips and weld the sides up.

That's a great idea. It shouldn't be hard to find a couple feet of decent pipe. Since I only want to do this once I'll strip it as well. Thanks for the tip :)
