TOPIC: Transom repair glass layup

Transom repair glass layup 5 years 5 months ago #140282

I have a 90 Champion 168 Bass Boat with a rotted transom. I cut the 1/4" thick exterior skin, leaving 3 inches of the original glass & gelcoat around the perimeter. In the attached picture you can see the red line indicating where the exterior skin joints will be as well as 2 full thickness cracks that need repaired. Hoping someone can help with my layup or point me to a source to figure it out. My plan is to use 1708 biaxial & Vinylester resin for this. I am figuring 6 layers should get me to the correct thickness. Thanks!

If you go to the boatworkstoday.com website, Andy has I believe 4 videos showing every step of what you are doing using a big Boston Whaler boat example. I will try to put the first video here. If it works, I will try to put links to the others. They are on YouTube as well.

I believe this is the 4th of his 4 transom videos. I am also sure there are others that can guide you with other materials and methods as I am no expert.

No problem. I am sure many have variations of this process depending on tools, materials they have or prefer to use. Good luck!
