TOPIC: Thompson Boat factory FIRE in1955

Thompson Boat factory FIRE in1955 14 years 1 month ago #17457

Here is a recently "discovered" phot of the fire that destroyed much of the Thompson Bros. Boat Mfg. Co. factory at Peshtigo, WI in March 1955. Local residents and employees scrambled to save as many boats as they could possibly haul out of the buildings.

What a great thing for them to do. And in that kind of weather.... good people. Thanks for the photo.

Here's a 1950s picture of the Thompson Boat plant at Peshtigo, WI (on the left). Note the round metal tubes sticking out of the wall. Those were the steam boxes for steam bending white oak ribs, etc...

This building was put up in 1949 to replace one destroyed by a fire that same year (not the fire in the previous picture - that was another fire).

The complex straight ahead and to the right is Unit Structures, Inc. - which has been Sentinel Structures, Inc. since 1973, my employer.

RESEARCH! Time and money.

The last photo was an eBay purchase.
