I have just purchased a Dorsett Catalina on a Holsclaw tilt trailer. I'm not familiar with the tilting. What is the proper technique for launch and recovery?

Thanks

Dennis

Nice Catalina Dennis, and welcome aboard. I never use the tilt feature on any of the trailers I've had, just back 'em in the water until the stern floats and slide the boat off. Same procedure loading, only in reverse order of course. It takes a little practice to figure out how deep to back the trailer in, and different ramp angles will change how far you want to back in as well.

I think the tilt feature is mainly for launching and loading where there is no ramp, or like loading a boat up on the trailer off of dry ground.(?)

Don't forget to put the plug in the bilge drain before launching! (Been there, did that, very embarrassing!)

Nice rig! the word cherry comes to mind. I've had trailers with tilt but never used it. The tilt trailer was made for shallow water launch & recovery, keep the wheel bearings above the water. Believe it or not some people do not maintain their wheel bearings, and this was an answer. Watching people struggle tring to use it, I think it's easier to check the bearings regularly, L&R normally.
