OK I tore her all down, fix a few shaddy additions made by the previous owner.i added a spare tire mount, ordered all new rollers.
It all went to the powder coaters this morning !!
Will be needing new tires and zi will be doing sometihing differ4ent
with the tail lights.Think I will mount them to the vert roller arms,Better visability and keep them dry !!
I upgraded the reciever to a 2" now all my toys have the same Ball.
I am doing it all in red to match the boat`s upper !
I am looking for some baby moons ,and white walls,I mat have to make my own !!12" tires not much of a choice out there ??

Powder coat would be nice. How much will that set you back? I just did my TeeNee with Rustoleum.

I do a lot of work with a company for work, so he does me right!!!
I have never had to pay for any of my personal projects with them !!
So,,,,, The price is right,,,and I do not have to strip it down,They do all the sand blasting..
When I get everything back I will post some pics of the reassembly !!
Your trailer is looking good--a-lot of work !!

That's sweet.
Without the fenders you can't see the effect. :woohoo:

Interesting Holsclaw, FANTM, don't know that I've seen one configured quite like that. The folding tongue part must have been added by a previous owner? Peter Crowl (in Denver) had some of the moon hubcaps, don't know if he has any left or not. We've got the part number for Monroe Magnum replacement shocks back in the archives here somewhere if you need it, just holler. Can't wait to see it when the powder coating is done. I think I would do the fenders (and maybe the winch stand) in white, but that's just my opinion. I'm sure it will look great either way. ;)

I agree, Robert's trailer turned out really nice!

The folding tongue was an add on that I removed,,,,Really crappy work.I`m surprised it made it home ??The welds were all cracked and it was brazed not welded !!I reinstealled the solid design.
I was kicking around the options of white accents..But since I am getting free powder coating,,I did not want to push my luck by addind too many differten steps. So it is going all red too match the boat,,,with white walls and moons it should turn out pretty cool !

Carlisle makes some pretty good 12" trailer tires. Haven't seen any white walls though.

fantm,if you could get 13 inch rims for your trailer here is a place for 13 inch white wall tires, they are firestone ,
www.widewhitetires.com/firestone.html ..and walmart sells winch straps cheap if it would work for you, john

Re:Rebuilding my Holsclaw 13 years 1 month ago #46334

If your winch can take a strap, do that. Straps wear longer and just look neater. If you're sold on rope, any kind of poly rope that has capacity for what your rig weighs will do the trick.

All this talk about white walls is interesting. First thing I look for in tires is if they're made for a trailer, then I want radials. I have never seen radial trailer tires with white walls, but that doesn't mean they're not made. You can always add white walls to any tire you get, check out the porta walls here: www.portawalls.com/

Good luck!

OK a little progress, I cleaned and painted all the hardware, to match the trailer,,,when I get it back ??
I bought a set of used 12" tires, almost new 155 sr 12`s for cheap.
I will be painting white walls on them today. And I will try to secure a strap type hook to my rope winch..

I'm still trying to figure out how to get the original pins out of the rollers. Nothing I've tried so far works, and I need to get it figured out soon!

Are you talking about the bunk rollers, Frank? One end looks like a carriage bolt head (rounded), and the other is like a rivet peened over all around? Drilling the peen off is the only solution I can come up with on those.

I'm putting off replacing all the rollers on my Holsclaw because they're weird sizes, (keel rollers especially), and many of the shafts would have to be replaced in the procedure mentioned above.

Anybody got a trick to rejuvenate old rubber rollers so they don't mar the hull?

(Sorry about jumping your thread, Fantm!)

Re:Rebuilding my Holsclaw 13 years 3 weeks ago #48396

Yes Mark, the bunk rollers. I guess I need a bigger drill bit. I tried one that I thought might be too big, and it didn't work. I'll get back at it soon. Thanks!

He sure does! Better be nice to him and treat him right.

Coming along great Fantm, will be watching for your updates. Please pass along the size (and source) on the rollers you use, I think it would be helpful to many of us.

As far as the source I will have to look it up ?
For the Keel rollers, I bought some that require some modifications.
I need to sand about .25" off and replace the shaft with a .5" bar
and secure them with thoes little "hat" caps
As far as the other rollers, I am considering using boards for the sides instead of the original rollers.
the rear roller will work , I just need to replace the shaft with a 5/8" bar.

I had the same roller I used to replace one on my Electra trailer years ago. I had to sand it down also.

Holsclaw bunk rollers; (Each on a 4' "rail)
You can't really see them as well as I had hoped, I think they're a little different that what yours has on it Fantm. The keel rollers have the cotter pins and or cap nuts, as MP described, but these are "peened" (for lack of a better word) at the factory (top pic).

Really sharp looking job you have done there. I like how you mounted your bunks, really looks first class and should last for years. Nice color also, just kinda jumps out and grabs you. Keep up the good work and keep us posted. Skip.
