I worked at a tire shop for a number of years and the biggest recomendation I can give you is stay away from radials on trailers. I would go with a minimum of a D-rated Bias-Ply tire you could get by with a C-rated though. They are much sturdier, have a thicker sidewall and heavier belting than a similar rated radial. I sold a ton of carlisle's and have them on my trailer and my dads big Sunrunner trailer as well and never had an issue.

Why stay away from radials? Everyone I know that has them say they make towing their trailer so much better (night and day) from bias. I've been saving my pennies for some. Any specific problems?

Thanks!

I have seen quite a few blow on the freeway during the summer even here in North Idaho. True, they give you a smoother ride in all climate conditions but the problems are mostly related to the heat and the sidewall. I had a good friend blow out two on the same side of his brand new triple axle horse trailer he switched out to Bias and hasn't had a problem in 4 years. A bias tire sidewall is at least 2-3x thicker than a similar rated radial. Most radial trailer tires only have a single ply sidewall. This is why they give a smoother ride as well as the design of the belting being different. But if its only on a trailer ride quality shouldn't be a big problem.
