TOPIC: Apache IMP

Apache IMP 12 years 4 months ago #67455

Hello I am currently deployed in Afghanistan flying Apache helicopter and always wanted an old Apache IMP boat. I have one I want to buy but had a few questions first. How much would one be worth? Its about a 16' boat with a Johnson 35 HP outboard motor. Needs alot of TLC to the interior of the boat. Anyone know what years these boats was made? How difficult would it be to restore? I will post some photos of the boat soon. Thank you for any feed back.

Welcome to FG and thank you for your service in the Armed Forces.
Here are a few shots of an Apache I owned. There is no info here in the Library on IMP. I only owned this for a short time and sold it to the current owner. They love the boat and it handles great. That is about all I know.

How big of a motor can you mount on these little boats. Can you mount a large enough motor to pull up a skier etc? Any idea what horse power the Johnson motor is in the photo? Thank you for any info!

Welcome aboard!

I know I scanned a bunch of IMP (Iola Molded Plastics) brochures and submitted them the the Library here. I wonder where they ended up?

Iola Molded Plastics was originally formed to make "Red Fish" brand fiberglass boats. When Red Fish went belly up in 1962, IMP continued is business and made their own brand of boats.

"IMP" is the maker and "Apache" is the model.

There is some IMP information in the Red Fish section:

www.fiberglassics.com/library/Red_Fish

I would not pay more than a few hundred dollars for that boat, motor and trailer.

If you get that 35HP running right, it will pull a single skier on two skis as long as the skier doesn't weigh more than the boat.
It is probably rated close to 100 HP or slightly under.
Niels pics, that engine is likely a 75 V4

I beleive that IMP also built an Apache model that was a stern drive in the late 60's-early 70's. We had a neighbor that owned one with a 160hp Mercruiser. It was turquoise hull and deck and was qutie striking in the day. We had a dealer in Des Moines that sold alot of IMP's in the late 60's- early 70's
