300 bucks, GOOD DEAL! The interior looks great. Hopefully the motor is good. I got my compression tester for cheap from auto zone I think. Mike

Thanks, Mike. The seats have a few bad spots on the corners, but that can wait until next winter. Finally got all the leaves and debris cleaned out, gotta figure out what to do with 12 gals of BAD gas.

I have to go down to Advance and pick up my brake rotors for my truck later, there's an Auto Zone right across the street. Think I'll go ahead and get another comp gauge, mine has obviously "walked off".

I was going to pull her out of the garage to get a few pics, but the skies are looking like more rain, so guess I'll wait......

Wow, if your transom and stringers are solid that's one of the best deals I've seen in awhile. You should feel guilty!
The paint isn't even discolored on the cylinder heads.
Nice useable day boat. Break out your polyester shirt and some Bee Gees, on an 8 track. My Farallon has an 8 track in her.
You need a disco ball for a rear view mirror. With FG on it.
There are lots of undiscovered bargains in Disco Fiber out there.

Many landfills have hazardous waste disposal free of charge now, call your local facility.

Thanks Bill. Near as I can tell, everything is solid. (Still checking the Johnson out though,) I'm usually on the wrong end of the good deals, so this is a rare and wonderful moment to be sure! I refuse to feel guilty about it. :)

I'm allergic to polyester, but I CAN hear "stayin' alive" playing in the background! :silly: Think we'll skip the disco ball, but I'd be PROUD to run some FG stickers on the boats and my truck, guess I need to get with Sandi & see if any are available.

I can remember when we didn't know any better and just dumped bad gas on the ground. If anybody said anything, we called them "tree huggers" and laughed. Guess I should have been reading the "Mother Earth News" instead of lining the bird cage with it.

Jeez, the deal just keeps getting sweeter! This weekend the compression check and spark check on the Johnson both came out thumbs up!

Today the guy I bought the boat from brought me the original convertible top, several bumpers, the vinyl piece that snaps in below the windshield the goes into the opening to the bow area, and a boat cover.

Speaking of the passageway to the bow area, anybody have any suggestion on where to look for the "hinge" on the swinging windshield? It appears to have been a weatherstrip looking rubber piece that slides into the frame of both the port side w/s frame and the center w/s frame.

Had to order the Clymer shop manual for the '73 Johnson 115, nobody seems to stock them anymore. Barnes & Noble has a sale going on right now, you get the low "membership" price, plus they pay shipping. Ordered it Sunday, came UPS yesterday! Who's a happy boy now!?

Gads, talk about neighbors and not knowing it, I live over in Water Wonderland just about 14 or so miles north of you. Check out my 1973 Glastron in this forum.

Finally got a chance to roll her out of the garage for a few minutes, got a some better pics.

Rebuilt the carbs and fuel pump, test fired with the ear muffs and the Johnny runs good. Not enough water coming out the tell-tale to suit me, so I shut it off and will install the water pump kit soon. Dang, those number seem huge! See the dogwood trees blooming in the background? 72 deg. tody Gotta do something with the burlwood trim, looks bad Murray trailer needs sandblasted and paint.

I crawled up under the bow floor to unhook the broken drain hose that goes out to the fitting on the port side of the hull this evening. Man, what a waste of storage space up under there! (The wheels are turning on this, can you smell the smoke?) Guess I'll go to Lowes tomorrow morning to look for some replacement hose.

Also checked into why the steering wheel was so loose on the helm. Wow, it looks just like the Ride-Guide system in the Cutter! (Only has OMC cast into the housing, of course.) No grease filling like the Merc unit though. Sure enough, pulled the long bolt and the wheel, the tapered square hub tumbler looks just like the R.G. setup.

Bad news - the plastic steering wheel is cracked up around the hub area underneath.

Good news - A nice man gave me a pretty decent wheel off another model Glastron and it came in this week.

Bad news - It won't fit, uses a different mounting hub.

Update - Does anyone sell new steering wheels to fit the Square taper? Took a quick look around this morning, all seem to say 3/4" taper mounting, assume they mean round! May have to call my brother (a master machinist) and get an adapter made to mount the Momo wheel hanging in the garage.

As it turns out, the drain hose was 1 1/2" id, found some pool vacuum hose that works just fine. It also appears to be much better construction than what was there originally, shouldn't have to replace that again.

Motor tune-up including water pump kit completed, battery box installed and wiring straightened out well enough for now, thinking a "test run" on the lake is in order! Vacation day approved for tomorrow, supposed to be 82* and Sunny. Wish me luck. :cheer:

I got mine from Grant. Adapters too, if they don't I don't know who would have them. I called Grant directly.

1st lake shakedown cruise went GREAT! I'm really surprised at how well the Starflite handles, plenty of power too. B)
First time in the water (with me) Classic transom shot Tach seems to read high, maybe not enough prop? Steering wheel off center, and speedo not working :( Better sun angle for pic, lets see what she'll do wide open! TOO MUCH!

Thanks, don't know what I was thinking twisting it up that high. I'm looking at props now, gotta get that needle back down in the sane range! 19 pitch @ $103 from Wholesale Marine with hub kit! Old prop - somebody has been grinding on it! (Wasn't me, I promise) No numbers on it anywhere ? Wish I knew what pitch it is, would make purchasing a new one easier - more informed!

Hey Mark
clean the front of the hub and you should find the pitch and diameter stamped or forged into the end where the exhaust comes out.

Thanks bp, but there are no numbers anywhere on the old prop, I've looked everywhere!

Contemplating options on a new prop, thinking about going with a 4-Blade 19P. I decided to work on the boat to help resist the urge to take her out again with the old one.

Got all the lights burning, (the wiring was a mess under the dash). Installed the new water pressure gauge in the dash and ran the tubing back to the splash well, still have to route it to the motor and hook it in.

Need an experienced ear to listen to this, the test tach wouldn't pickup in the direct sunlight. Take off then level out at 5 grand, short burst to 65 hundred on the tach, then back to 5g. I believe Jim Andros is right, this tach is way off!

Started getting pretty choppy out there, can you tell!?

If your tach was right, you would have more than 4 holes in that block.

Also, if you do the math & take RPM to convert it to MPH, you would be near 60 & that isn't going to happen. I would be happy with 45.

Maybe Santa will bring me a new tach for Christmas this year. I'm not going to worry about it right now, my "top" priority is keeping the sun from frying my head. (pun intended) I'm happy with the performance I've got, she planes out in a heartbeat and scoots pretty good when you ask her to!

Finally got the steering wheel straight, and the sticker put in the hub cover!
'Course I gotta pull the helm out to check the play in the steering cable, think the nut may be loose that connects it to the rack. Start over......

Thanks, I got mine from iBoats, here's the link to the page;
www.iboats.com/Boat-Cable-Boots/dm/cart_id.372189087--session_id.499103330--view_id.217153
They are okay, but I now wish I'd have sprung a few more bucks for the ones with the ring that goes over the flange. If you look close at the one on the starboard side, you can see that the weight of the cables is pulling on the boot which distorts the flange against the splashwell. They'll do for now, may upgrade this winter when I plan on doing some other upgrades including the interior.

Finally got the OE top stretched to fit, the zippers need replaced, but think I'll do that and keep it. I thought it was kinda ugly at first, but the more I think about it, and look, it's kinda growing on me. 'Sides, you don't see that many around with the original top......(been hanging around "the purists" too long! LOL)

Yeah it's not bad Mark. And it's origional. I've seen much uglier tops trust me. Now you need to get on it with the 303 Protectant. It'll really work wonders on that old vinyl. Make it easier to get on & off too.

I was real glad I put my top on last Sunday. It's been brutal down here the past few days. Phew!

Thanks Doug. It hasn't gotten TOO bad here in ATL, but I know it will soon! My poor old balding head can't take that sun like it used too. ;) I've been looking for 303 but can't find any around here, guess I'll "google" it and see what comes up.

Hey Mark the boat is looking good. For 300 bucks you got more then a steal.
It didn't look like the tech was working on the last vidio. Looked like it was sitting at 5 grand the whole time. Now if you want to check your speed get a hand held GPS that has mph on it. As accuate as radar in a stright line. I use mine all the time to track my speed when trolling. It sure helps to keep my speed just right were I want it.

Thanks for the kind words, Mike. I've only had the Starflite a few months, still sorting out the small details. Gotta tell you tho, I love this boat! I used the top for the first time yesterday, really came in handy getting out of the sun.

The new tach has a "red line" (adjustable), that's what you saw setting on 5G all the time. The actual needle is white, it's harder to see on the video. (Especially with the bouncing). It's much easier to see when your driving.

I've got a GPS unit on my list for Santa this year, guess I'd better be a good boy huh? (Lord knows I try.) ;)
