I just found a large area of rot in the wood in the transom of my wonderful new project. It is on both sides of the outdrive opening. Is this type of repair doable by your average joe(me) or should I start rethinking my game plan.

transom replacement is not all that hard to do depending on the boat . the easiest way is to remove the top , engine , outdrive and anything in the way . then ripping out the rotten wood and glassing in a new one and puttin it back together . how ever thats the nut shell explanation . most people starting this are urged to buy the book "Runabout Renovation" its a how to book covering just about everything about rebuilding a glass boat .

Scroll down to 1978 Chrysler Conquerer and note his use of Seacast.

I used Seacast but not on a I/O.
I would think an I/O or inboard would be more difficult.
Check out Seacast or even call them, many have done the I/O with Seacast.
