I got bored today, so I shot some video while I was out doing my rounds today... It gives you an idea of the 'rig' that I'm working on now-

It's an ITB- Integrated Tug/Barge- Which is more or less a tugboat that's attached to a barge. We are in what's called a 'deep notch', and pretty much never separate the tug from the barge... It's more cost effective to run it this way, though, because we can have a smaller crew.

All this video is on the tug- it's too COLD to go shoot anything on the barge today... I'll get to that later.

Great video. Are those main engines 567's or 645's? I have repaired many of those in the past complete overhauls welded oil headers, engine blocks etc... about 16 years of traveling and repairing those E.M.D.s as well as Alco, Faibanks Morse, Cooper Bessman, and many others on ships, tow and tug boats. Have you ever seen any of the 20 cylinder E.M.D.s?

Pete-

Those are (or were) 645's, but they had a total rebuild over the winter to meet the new pollution standards, so they're more or less 710's now.

I've seen the 20 cyls in photos. That's a BIG engine!

I have been away from that type of work for about 25 years. 710's wow larger pistons and liners? I laid inside of a 20 cyl for 26 hours straight onetime welding up the oil header ("P" pipe header) on the center engine of the M/V Augernaught (Dravo-Mechlin company) rated 10,000 horse power (3 - 20 cyls turbo charged) while the port and starbard engines were still pushing barges up the river in August what a hot and noisy job that was. but thanks for sharing the video really brings back memories!

Hey Andrew...

if you get the feeling to roam and your stuck in place because of the ice around you, you could always get Ship simulator 2008 with the horizon upgrade...

Took a spin (literally) under the Golden Gate bridge in what is pretty close to your boat...

left engine full reverse, right engine flank forward with the helm held over to "spin" this for to take the picture....

least to say I got to sing give me forty acres to turn this rig around..a couple of time to get it to do a 180 to get the bridge in view with the boat.
