TOPIC: Out Board Size

Out Board Size 5 years 5 months ago #139773

Working on a 1959 Cambridge 15, Wondering about power. Brochure says 15 to 50 HP. This will be a daily driver in salt water so we are looking at a new engine not a restored engine. The four strokes are heavier than motors used to be. Any one do a recent re-power? The hope is to plane off with for adults and maybe the family dog.

Depending on the year of the brochure, that Hull was usually rated for 40HP. With four average size adults, it should plane fine. It’s relatively narrow, and round bilge, and thus needs less power to plane. Typical power back then was a 35 HP Johnson or Evinrude.

It was replaced by the Niagara model in 1962, which was a deeper, wider, but slightly shorter boat. It was rated for 45 or 50 HP.
