TOPIC: SS prop anode clearance?

SS prop anode clearance? 14 years 4 months ago #9892

I've got 1/8 maybe 3/16 clearance here for this SS chopper blade. Is that sufficient? SS - no flex right?

Thanks!

Frank

I think i would clearance that tab out just a bit more(maybe another 1/4 inch up and a 1/4 inch back or so)...i would imagine spinning a prop that fast, even with a stainless one, could easily flex more than an 1/8th of an inch. Would REALLY suck to ruin such an expensive prop!! :S

Here's what I ended up with. Also, found a # on the prop, 48-61902. 14" diameter, 22 pitch. Cupped two blade. Try it out tomrrow night. Wish I could tonight, but potential weather, and lateness of dinner make it not a good night.

I'd love to try it Dave. we will be at the Henry Hudson boat launch in Bethlehem tomorrow night (if all goes well) between 5 and 5:30. I'm bringing my 3 blade 21 pitch prop too, at least I know I can get out and have some fun with it, even if I do keep porpoising. Gail is bringing some kind of dinner with us, like sandwiches and chips er sumpin.

The anode should be flat for these props, remove the fin completely. It has NO effect as these props should be run on a motor where the cav plate is above the water, so the anode is not in the water at all at speed. If you can't run the motor high then this is not the prop. It's looks like an older Merc "elephant ear" Good bow lift etc. but the newer three blade lasers or equivalent would be better still. that said it's a great vintage prop form the early 70's.
I too would be interested it's the right pitch. I have a restored 74 Vector with an inline and that prop would be correct vintage and size. That said, good luck, I hope that it works for ya.

I removed the anode because of prop clearance issues... boat doesn't run much more than 20 MPH, always in fresh water, stays up on a hoist when I'm not running.

I suppose I could get a flat anode or grind down what I have now...

Or simply get a Mercury setback trim tab. It also has the advantage of alot of area to counter any torque.

merc makes a anoiod for raked props you may be able to match one of these with the cutout in the cav plate

SS prop is gone back to owner 14 years 3 months ago #12814

I borrowed that prop from Brian Lawson. I got it back to him, and it's now on his Missile with the shorty 1350. End of story.
