TOPIC: Mercury Mark 58 sale price?

Mercury Mark 58 sale price? 10 years 3 months ago #98602

Hey Guys,

I am trying to arrange to look at a 1959 Mark 58a. I have not seen the motor yet, its listed on craigslist and they guy does not have any pictures up of it. He claims its in great cosmetic shape, and has good compression. He does admit that the starter needs to be replaced or re-built. He is asking $600 for the motor. If what he claims is true and the motor is in good condition and does indeed have good compression is this a fair price? Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

Dan

If this helps I live in NJ, where everything is overpriced.

It is hard to imagine he Knows the compression is good if the starter is pooched. Ask him to show you the compression test, if he can,t turn it over and show you the price goes way down.

I was suspicious of the whole compression claim myself. I am going to check it myself, no way am I just going off his claims.

I have a 62 1000 that is annoying the crap out of me. Catch me in the right mood (like when I am trying to make it run) and you can have it and the boat that it is attached to.

That said, I bought mine without hearing it run and you can bet I'll never to that again.
