I have been slowly attempting to get this thing going correctly for over a year.
I have received much help from another forum.
I am almost there, but I though I would get some more input.

I will condense this as much as possible.

95 PSI on each cylinder.
Very nice spark. Jumps a wide gap.
Tiller handle also shifts it into gear.
Serial #0C173354

Purchased from someone I know for $100.
Found he used a wrong gasket for a carb rebuild.
Found broken reed valve.
Still had issues.
Other forum member suggested I remove powerhead and reseal.
I did, and it was a huge improvement.

I also serviced the lower with a pump kit and gear oil. Cooling is excellent.
Thermostat as well when I resealed the power head.

Now on the boat (14' aluminum typical Starcraft), idles great, 3500 RPMs great (17 mph), 3600 RPMs it starts to shudder and shake pretty bad.

Checked timing at 3000 RPMs and I believe it is very close to where it should be.

Any suggestions?
Thanks

I can link to the other forum (three threads in total) if it doesn't violate any rules, but you likley don't want to read any novels.

Have you done OHMS tests on the stator?
Perhaps the high RPM side of the stator is faulty.

How big of a piece of a reed peddle was missing?
Are the peddles spring steel or fiber?
Is the missing piece large enough to block an intake port or cause internal carnage?

No ohms test on stator, but I have been reading the CDI troubleshooting manual today. I will.
I didn't know there was a high RPM side to the stator?

Reed piece was small, but steel.
I will post a pic.
Thanks Doc.

More Info.

I did some general ignition testing.

Stator = 3040 ohms
Trigger = 747 ohms
Both primary ignition coils = short
Top secondary coil = 919 ohms
Bottom secondary coil = 915 ohms

All are in spec. except the stator which is very close.

Spark plugs are B8HS-10 gapped at .040.
Why these are in there (I put them in)?
Service bulletin says they should be NGK BP8H-N-10
Could this be my issue?

I rerouted some wiring, and will try to retest this weekend.
After this I may start shotgunning parts, starting with coils and wires.
At least on these new engines they are available.

Check for a cracked or corroded exhaust tuner, very common on that engine. Remove the lower unit and check by grabbing it and trying to shake it and inspect it with a good flashlight for holes.
