TOPIC: merc 1150

merc 1150 10 years 5 months ago #96052

Just bought this one for a hundred bucks yesterday . Was wondering if any of you have run one of these ? Just looking for general info. Here's what I know , it has been spark and compression tested by a shop , however the seller claims they did not attempt to start it , saying the impeller would need replaced prior to starting . It came on this stylecraft speedboat which I don't know much about either , and also included the tee nee trailer its sitting on . The trailer has a bent tongue and the boat has a few areas I have questions about as well . I believe the merc is a 74 and the boat may be a 60's era . The serial # on the merc is 3943638 . I would be appreciative of any input about this gear. I will post more pics when I get er home

What were the compression readings?
Properly maintained, the 1150 can be a very dependable motor.

I bought a '77 last year. I still need to rebuild the carbs, but other than that it is a great motor. There are a lot of these old girls still around, so that has to say something. Parts are easily available, and Joe is a good place to start. Other local dealers should be able to help you out also.
