Not a Mercury built Wizard, probably A Scott like Dave says. It is an oddball to be sure and if they did build such a thing it would be worth getting for the rarity factor. I have never seen another one before.

Not rare? When was the last time you saw one? In my 35 years of collecting I have never seen one with the Wizard name on it. Rare enough for me!

Well, I been "wet" since I was 5 years old, now I'm 63.
That said, if it was built, I probably saw it, as same and few motors not seen me and worked on too. Now that seems to me like said.."Elgin/..Scott/Attwater, McCullough, Chrysler, heck same copy the Rude ""Fisherman, low profile".

There NO way thats some Merc, (I know what a Wizard looks like too, Doc has one) Think what ya got there is a simple reworked over decades, "custom hood". Worked on many..(not Rudes though, bullet proof those motors!), but the copy cats?..scrap metal to me. But be great "shop art", if ya get it for $30/40 tops out the door. But thats not "rare" to me.

IT is not reworked it is a wizard . merc was not the only manufacture of wizards. i think they stopped about 58 or so. IT IS DEFINATLY A WIZARD.

I agree its might be a Wizard, but I REALLY doubt made by Merc as thats my point. Compare that motor to a Merc Wizard.

Heres a link of Merc Wizard pix. Nothing there that looks like that low profile Fisherman style as stated here.

That was my point it was not made by mercury. mercury stopped about 1958 and this was early 60's.

Same model was offered in 1960/61 - Wizard model no. 2GC-6908, the 7.5 HP motor introduced in 1960 as the Fishing Scott 7.5 HP, made by McCulloch Corp. A later 9.0 HP with electric start was based off this motor. You can find the exact same motor as a Ted Williams, Elgin, Sears, McCulloch, Scott, Fishing Scott, Wizard, Hiawatha, and probably a few more. This one happened to be sold by Western Auto stores, thus the "Wizard" branding. Looks real sharp with the blue paint which was special to the Wizard version (though the Elgin version had chrome too.)

I have a later McCulloch version- haven't gotten it running though.

Re:Wizard 11 years 1 month ago #85150

I paid 60 for the pair, the scott is a 6hp-witch I never knew they made in 6 hp, the wizard is a 7.5 hp, elgins and the ted williams are common, hiawatha and the wizards are less common.
