TOPIC: Lower unit drain hole 1961 Mercury 700

Lower unit drain hole 1961 Mercury 700 11 years 2 months ago #83508

I am trying to drain the lower unit on my 1961 Mercury full shifting 700. There is no drain plug at the bottom of the unit. There are two plugs on top where you would normally find the upper plug. There are actually three plugs up there one is for flushing the motor(running it out of water). It appears the only way to drain the unit is to remove the lower unit and angle it so the oil can come out the upper hole. I was wondering if anyone else has run it this problem or if there is some type of pump I could use. Trying to winterize the motor, do not want it to freeze and crack this winter.

pump oil in one hole and flush till new oil comes out the other. or remove the lower to check the waterpump and remove both plugs and tilt it to drain.they were a pain.
