TOPIC: motor raise up in reverse - big issue to fix?

motor raise up in reverse - big issue to fix? 11 years 2 months ago #83347

I am looking at buying a 1963 Mercury 700. Seller says that when it is in reverse, the motor wants to raise up, so he does not give it much gas in reverse. I figure there must be something in the linkage that is keeping the hooks from dropping down and grabbing the mount. Is this a big issue to address? Just want to know if I am getting into a big headache. The size of the headache effects what I am willing to pay for the motor. Any comments are welcome.

It may be as simple as the reverse lock out pieces having been left out when the water pump impeller was replaced . I bought these for $ 3. on Ebay...
