TOPIC: What size allen wrench for trim tab '63 1000?

What size allen wrench for trim tab '63 1000? 14 years 5 months ago #7679

I've got a zillion allen wrenches but of course none seem to be just right. Do any of you fine folks know what size it is? If I knew, I would just pick one up tomorrow.

I need to drop the trim tab to get at that bolt up underneath to drop the LU to change the impeller!

Thanks for any help.

Frank, I remember that one of them was 7/32, but unfortunately I don't remember the size of the other one, sorry. (That's the one that holds the trim tab on, if I recall properly.) I also remember it was quite easy to get the wrench in between the bolt and the housing instead of into the bolt properly.

Must be 3/8". Just went to lay down and read a book, and think "I could mike that one that was close and figure it out." Sure enough, allen wrench is 3/8, the end I was using is fractionally larger. I'll pick up a good new one tomorrow when I'm out and about. Thanks!

3/8 or 5/16 both were used.

Duh, why didn't I think of that? Thanks for the email Dave. I cut the short end off my beat up 3/8 allen wrench, took my good file and cleaned up both ends, stuck the straight 3/8 hex in a 3/8 1/2" drive socket, and presto zippo, off came the trim tab. Thanks!
