Not My Motor, but of General Interest

Rochester, MN Craigslist ad:

Its a 1969 Mercury 1250 Super BP factory race motor. This motor has had the power head replaced so its not a numbers matching motor which is not uncommon. It runs like a top and is in great shape. I have aquired a loovered wrap for it that is not pictured and that will go with it. I have no desire to sell this for less do to te fact there are about 10 to 12 of them left in the world. I have never raced this motor nor has anyone that has owned it in the past 5 years so its fresh.

Because you say that the power head has been replaced, my concern would be to confirm the replacement powerhead is truely a 1250BP & not a common 1250 powerhead.
The true 1250 BP block was unique.
It had 1350 transfer port covers, but unlike the later model 1350, still used the 1250 style fuel pumps. The stock 1250 block had unique transfer port covers that can been seen in a parts break-down.
Post a picture of the starboard side of the block so we can help you identify exactly what is offered up for sale.
The 1250 BP mid is unique - similar in some ways to a T-1 mid.
The lower unit is a 1250BP SSM (super speed master) with a FNR shift - also unique to the 1250BP as other SSMs did not have a shift and were simply start in gear & go.

The Mercury racing motor is not mine, but I posted to this site out of general interest. The current owner or former owner of the motor would be knowledgable of changes from original parts. The substitution of common parts I'm sure would affect the value of the motor.
