TOPIC: Merc 400 faceplate

I am sprucing up my faceplte and have some questions.
The face of the knob has a v and circle around it what color should that V be? The other question I have is the chrome. It is not pitted but it has lines in it. they almost look like paint runs any Idea what they could be. I am trying to polish them out without too much luck.

The knob on your face plate is a "K" in the center not a "V". These were painted black with the k and out side edge unpainted. Just paint then whole thing and then run the top across a sheet of fine sand paper until the K and outside circle are down to base metal. The ridges on the area where the black paint is are not painted. They are left just chromed. Buff it up and you should be good to go. Skip.

use 320 wet dry sand paper in one direction only and leave it . and buff the high spot on the ribs in the black area of the plate.
