i hope one of you guys can tell me what the weight of an early 60's merc 70 hp with full gear shift and long shaft is. iam looking at it for my 58 shell lake rocket. thanks. frog

roughly 185lbs or so.

my 700 shorty is 165...add a few lbs. for the long shaft. ron

Hi Frog, I have 62 700 FGS I want to sell it Cheap. Needs Lower unit work and Ignition work. Spark on 3 cylinders I think minor problem.

They get heavier as we get older.in my case they would be approching 450lbs.

I know that's right, Dave! The fold-up engine hoist from Northern Tool (or HF ?) was one of the best purchases I ever made. Also can be rented from many local auto parts stores if needed short term.

my thanks to all of you, sorry i did not respond faster, but i am having comp problems again. now i would like to know what my 1966 50 hp longshaft merc weighs. i need it for a comparison . thanks, and dave you are right about the heaver motors get with age. lol frog
