TOPIC: 50 hp exhaust leak

tested out this 81 50hp , runs great after replacing switch box,but it smokes out of the left side upper mount on the top of the driveshaft housing,I am thinking it is the gasket between the housing and powerhead. will this seal up after more use? or should I take it apart and replace the gasket? or maybe just tighten down the bolts?

Don't think I,d worry too much about it Long as it's running ok. Sounds more like the exhaust reliefs in the back are plugged up & it's forcing the exhaust out around the mount. You might also want to check the seal around the exhaust tube that's located in the top of the lower unit. If it's missing or deteriorated the exhaust would try to come out the top also.

sounds like the seal around the upper mount they are a b@#$%^&*tch to change.

Otto I don't know about your exhaust problem, but I'm glad to here you got the 50hp running. Just in time for ice fishing LOL.
