TOPIC: New prop on my 64 650

Took the Glasspar up to the lake yesterday. The new 12.5" X 15p prop is a nice improvement over the old 17p. She does cavitate under full throttle takeoffs though. The cavitation plate is exactly even with the bottom of the hull. I think the hull is just creating a lot of turbulence until she levels off. Also cavitates in very sharp turns at full throttle. Wondering if one of those Doel-fins might help.

Once on plane and leveled out, I get 26 mph top speed (gps), with two adults on board. I'm now able to back off the throttle by 10-15% and stay on plane. I tried different tilt positions, and the second hole out from the transom seems to give the best performance. Overall, the prop is a good addition. Hope the link to the video works. Wish I had thought to offload my son for a test run. He's a very large guy and I think the boat will perform better with a single occupant.

I had a G3 with a 3cyl 650 backin the mid 70's it would do 43mph and 39 with 2 in the boat i never had a problem with cavitation. it was scarry on turns withme on the outside . it would bank well then would lift and level out and slide first time it scared the sh--t out of me.

This delMar is no G3, that's for sure. But I'm glad it responded OK to the prop change. I think I could go to a 13p and get those rpms even higher, but for now I'm pleased with the boat overall. I'd like to check the timing (link & sync), but it will be a challenge. This 64 motor has just about no timing marks and no decal or sticker on the flywheel.
