TOPIC: Even more prop questions!

Even more prop questions! 12 years 1 week ago #69640

Since this has been topic of choice lately, I need your help. Pick up a 19p 3 blade prop to try out something different for performance. The old 2 blade needs to retire to backup status. Plus I picked up this newer one for 30 bucks at an old supply shop.
I need to know if I need a thrust washer or something before I put the prop on the shaft? Its a newer prop and the rear is flat.
Also, is a 13"x19p too much pitch for a Mercury 650 on a 16' glasspar Avalon?
Here are some pics, tell me what you think.
Once again, thanks in advance.

Hi,
Yes, a different thrust hub with an additional spacer is utilized when installing the newer type propeller you have purchased.
Yes, I believe that you will find it to be too much pitch also. The newer propellers do not exchange pitch for pitch with the original propellers due to standard blade cupping and changes to the blade geometry. Also, the 1963-1969 Merc 650 used a smaller blade area series of propellers Mercury produced for them.

Thanks Joe,

Based on my situation, what would you suggest? Pitch/diameter wise, or do you have reference to a kit I could use?

See my post in this thread. You have to be careful with the 4 hole 650, easy to over prop.
