TOPIC: Weight question ?

Weight question ? 12 years 1 month ago #67737

opportunity to get a 1973 65HP to replace a 1962 45 HP classic on my boat that left me a bit thinking more work is needed. Looking for a second motor to let me get out there. Wondering if a Merc 1973 65HP would be not too heavy for a boat designed for a 145# outboard.?

That engine will not be too heavy. My '67 Merc 650 shown here on my profile pic weighs 222 lbs.

should be OK that is a 3cyl and has a similar lower and tower as the 65 and up 500's. they are finicky to tune correctly.

What is the transom height of your boat? Most of the 65s are long shaft models. Your boats length and vintage make it likely it's a short shaft boat. In any case, 65hp on a 14-foot vintage runabout is a lot of motor...

Thanks for all yours input. I found and bought a '63 40HP Super Seahorse. Same weight, and HP. I know it's not a merc, but neither was my other motor. :-)
