TOPIC: Getting it all back together.

Well I finnaly got to work on the dockbuster for a few days. Starting to put it all back together now. Found out one thing, 61, 700's are not the same as a mark 78. Heres a few pics of what I got together tonight. I have to just wait for some gaskets and oil seals to get here and then I should get her back together next week.After that I need to make a new wirering harness. That should be lots of fun. Skip.

Holy cow Skip. That is clean and purdy. Can't wait to see this come together. There just ain't nothing like a white Merc.

Well I managed to get abit more done on this motor today. I do have one question I hope somebody out there can help me with. In the first 2 pics my rectifier has some corrosion on one corner. I need to know if I can just repaint it or do I have to find a good one. Also I see there is the red ones and a green one, is there any differance in them.



























I decided to set the top and wrap on it just to see what it is gonna look like. I still have the lower unit to do and clean up the wrap somemore. All in all I don't think it is turning out too bad considering I haven't worked on one of these motors since about 1971. I sure forgot how much fun these things are to put back together. Skip.

I'm kinda fond of those motor stands against the wall also.

Skip, I don't think there is any difference between the red and green rectifiers other than color, as I ran both with my '63 1000. I ended up adapting an early merc voltage regulator. I like it a lot better.

What did you paint your powerhead with? Rattle can or spray? I use high heat silver metallic (like for headers) out of a rattle can, and it seems to work well.

Niel, I can't remember where the heck I got the idea for the stands from. It just kinda popped up in front of me one day. PC1000, I used Dupli Color Engine Enamel with ceramic on the block. I have used alot of it on other blocks and I really like it. It doesn't flake off when it gets hot. I remember some other member said to use the newer small square rectifier on these motors, I just couldn't find the thread on it. I woud like to use the newer one and get rid of that book size one. It would make working on the front of these motors alot easyer. I am gonna start pulling the water pump apaet today and see if I can find the parts for it. You all have a good day today, Skip.
