Hello,
I was rumaging threw some parts over the weekend and was wondering is it posible to use the Mag off a 65 merc 500 on the powerhead from a 70 500? Ok maybe this is the better question can I put a 1970 Powerhead on a 1965 mid and lower and use the accesories off the 65 on that block... as the 65 powerhead is toast...

The reason for this is its my only short midsection and I would like the simplicity of the Magneto for what I want it on...

Thanks
Jesse

I helped a friend do one of those conversions many years ago. In addition to the magneto, he needed to swap the mag support tower and some other linkage, too, to make it all work properly. Wasn't hard to do - just more to it than swapping the mag.

Thanks for the Note, I have both engines so I will likely just switch all the parts to the new block. I was worried about the timming mark on the distributor support tower and the like. I wont get to that any time soon in the process of many coats of polly on that old Utility racer I am working on..

I had a 1970 500 manual start that I put the flywheel, stater, and starter from a Mark 58a on and the timing marks even lined up.
