TOPIC: Help me identify this part-steering control

Help me identify this part-steering control 12 years 4 months ago #63366

I bought myself a cool Crestliner Tri-hull. Haven't worked on boats much. While doing some rewiring I noticed this part was loose under the console(long tube) I screwed it back on. It had a "spring" in it. What is it's purpose? thank you

That is a cover that covers the end of the steering cable (not a spring as you described it). The cable moves in and out so the tail end varies in length as you turn.
