TOPIC: Lower Unit Swap Mercury 1150

Hey guys,
Ive got a 76 Mercury 1150 and there is great possibility that the lower is shot. What is interchangable with that year and size.
Serial #43118XX...

And if you have one, let me know. Im located in Ofallon, IL.

many yr's and modles just check the ratio when buying.

All inline 6's after 1971 are the same gear ratio as yours. The later ones in the 80's have a swept back skeg. This will still work fine. The earlier ones pre 1970 are a bit differnt but still will work.

You want a 2-1 gear ratio. The inline 4's will look exactly the same but are 2.3 - 1 gear ratio. You can use the 2.3 but will have to prop accordingly. The only odd duck is the 1.78 gears in 1970-71. Still will work but proping will have to be adjusted.

Like Dave said before many will work, just check the gear ratio.

Thanks guys. I have to keep my eye out for one affordable. I have a feeling seeing that my skeg is shot, and that the lower was empty when i got it there are going to be some problems. THat plus, i just went to make sure that i topped it off properly after getting it started on the muffs (and noticing nothing coming from the tell tale) there was a whitish hue to the lower oil......
