TOPIC: mercury quicksilver wheel

Hi all,
I just picked up this wheel off of ebay and I was curious about the center medallion. From the front it appears to be an integral part of the entire wheel casting. From the back you can see a 1/4-20 grommet that attaches the wheel to the steering shaft. Unless you take the grommet out it's hard to tell if there is any kind of attachment mechanism to remove the medallion. I'd like to get it off so that I can paint it a different color from the wheel. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

Thanks Mark. It does seem to be in good shape other than the paint. I guess I'll have to start buddying up with John before long. LOL.

My wheel is roughly the same. will be repainting soon.

shipster we already are buddies,send it and ill paint it,but it will be awhile,i am working on the room/porch addition,(in nbr),and then todds motor cowl,then the firetruck for charity,but send it on over my friend,i will always do my best to help out a fellow fiberglassics member,john,p.s. my wife volunteered me to paint another carousel horse,but this is for her friend,lol,but im not doing that till im done with everything else,lol

Hi Travis. Good to meet you. handshake. I don't have any immediate plans for this wheel in that I have 2 boats (neither of which are ready to go in the water) that both have steering systems on them. One is direct drive and the other is cable steering. I think my druthers are for direct drive but what the hell do I know. I have 2 boats (neither of which are ready to go in the water). Anyway, what exactly do you mean by what hookup am I looking for? Might be easier if you pm your phone number. Thanks.
