Neil,
I love your display design its very cool. I would be fearful of all that weight load on the transum clamp board if I built something like this for my engines so how did you do it so it handles the load. Send me a email with details. I reall love this display and have some 20 mercs that I would love to do this too. Very COOL. This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Actually I was wondering the same thing. Please post some detail on your construction method here Neil? I am also curious about that funky way you lift your motors with that little fork lift....seems precarious to me?

Nice find again....as usual as Jim said.

Is that a ply lap woody sitting behind there? Lyman/Thompson/PennYan/Cruisers Inc?

Bob and Tim, here is what I did. Pretty simple and I am sure it could be improved on but these have been holding everything from a KD4 to the 1350 longshaft, for close to three years. The 2x4 on edge under the clamp bracket is Douglas Fir. Tough stuff. It is screwed through the 1x4 up from the bottom with 5 2 1/2 inch screws.
Tall enough to accept the longshaft Mercs.
The 2x4 is cut at 15 degrees and is 19 inches long. I too was curious about the load bearing.
So I did this.
As far as the little lift goes, it is not tall enough to lift with a lifting eye in the flywheel. So I just make it work like in the motor pics. I turn the motors sideways between the forks to put them on these stands. Never dropped one and I have moved them around a bunch. Also it fits through the man door into the engine room. It was a good purchase. Capacity is 1500 lbs. I pick up boats with it also.
Pretty simple stands but work for me, I hope this helps.
And Tim, the boat in the background is the Cruisers Inc. that I just picked up in Portland this last weekend. It is in the Wood Boat section under "Did it again".
