I have a mid eighties Merc PTT unit (the integral, double cylinder type). I've started reassembling the '63 I am mounting to it. So before I get to far into that; Two questions

First: It works fine. I set up the Solenoids and switch and it goes up and down no problem. Other than replacing the fluid (cause I have no idea how long it's been in there) is there any servicing I should perform. Do I even need to replace the fluid?

Second: My unit doesn’t have tilt/trim limiters. Are these accessories I can easily source and mount?

I replaced the fluid in mine. For what it costs, it's easy to do, then you don't have to worry about it.

I have a limiter, but do not have it hooked up. I've run for two years like that without a problem.

Peter,
it is always good to service your unit. As far as a limit switch you can certainly get away with it but they are available for the integral T&T units. If you were running a bass boat or freaky hi speed shingle I would recomend it but not for your Thompson.

I figure it is simple enough to swap the PTT fluid, but when in doubt, ask!

I suspect this is where I drain the fluid



And this is where I add it (I'd have this open when draining the fluid so as to break the vacuum)



Do I just fill it till I see the fluid?

Peter in this photo it should be the release valve. Do not remove the screw. It is about a 100 dollar part.

so I am not sure what you are saying
Do I just loosen that screw to let the fluid out? And just need to make sure I don't take it all the way out? Or is there another valve that I am not seeing?

that screw should be plastic. You only turn it (counter clockwise if mem serves me right) to raise or lower the motor should the motor fail or you need to bleed the system.
At some point tomorrow or tuesday I will go look at one I have in the barn and locate what you are looking for.
