Grab that sucker! It's a STEAL at $150!! Easily worth $1000+ in parts alone!

Chinewalker's not kidding!!!!!!!!! That Howler (or Toilet Bowl) mid is worth many times the asking price WITHOUT the powerhead or gearcase!!!!!! With them, at least 10X the asking price!!!

There is a couple over on the Johns Old Mercury Site.
I would bring a picture over here, but I do not have the permission from the owner.
This one is missing some pieces, but what a find. I guess it was my turn. ;)
For now I will just clean it up and hang it in my engine room. (Hoarder)
I still can't believe some of the prices I have been hearing for the parts off of this little guy. Truly a part of racing history.
If there is a moral to this story, it would be not to give up on Craigslist, you never know what is going to turn up. And for little money!! Usually it is just the opposite.

Great score! I've lucked into a few motors locally over the years - fortunately racing was pretty big in my area back in the day so there are still a few gems hiding in the woodwork and weeds...

Here's a couple pics of me running my 20H about 10 years back at a local race. It ain't pretty, but she runs great! LOVE the sound of these things! Nothing like going in to turn one with 11 other Cornpoppers howling...

Nice racing pic...Long story short,I am picking up a boat Tuesday and the seller has a shop full of classics and I believe he has a semi pristine Hercules hanging in his office along with a couple Hurricanes. When I looked at the boat [off a craigs list add] I had no idea about his collection. I could not digest all the info on the motors he was telling me about in such a short time.Anyway I will check and if you need any info etc let me know.... Anyone remember the post about the minature-toy Merc on ebay that sold for like 1700. This guy had 75-100 of them all makes and models even had a Johnnson Golden 50,I know its a Merc forum but We/Dad had one sooo.

Thanks guys for all the info. For now I have no plans for this little guy. I thought I had better grab it before it got away though.
I benched it this morning and wiped it down and pulled the plugs. I put some oil in the holes and was turning it over to coat things. I thought what the heck, wonder if she has spark. I put the plugs in the boots and wrapped a rope and gave her a spin. Good spark.
Soooo, impellor, carb, prop, check seals, etc.,etc. Looks like I bought myself a job!
I shut off the lights to the engine room, closed the door and drove to work with visions of sugarplumbs dancing in my head.
Is this hobby a hoot or what????????????

I hear ya Kerry. Got a motor and now time to shop for the boat. All of mine are too big for this guy! I have found an old plywood hydro hanging in a guys garage. Put the two together and make a hanging display in my shop. Probably safer for my old bones that way.
Andreas. Thanks for the "cornpopper" pics, that looks intense to say the least!

Re:Hercules Racing motor 12 years 6 months ago #58377

I drove one on an 11-ft A/B runabout (56 mph) many years. Rig it up and let me try it one more time!!! Yea, right, at age 73!!! But, I don't know any better and I would sure give it a whirl. Keep that motor, it is worth a ton of $$$$ when restored. Saw two of them last weekend at Tavares, one priced at $3500 the other at $4,800.00!!!!

I have a friend in Ga that may have the prop nut, etc. You can make a shear pin!!
