TOPIC: What's different between '63 1000 and '70 1350?

I was looking through my NAPA marine parts book tonight and noticed a few differences in parts, but not many. The 1350 has an alternator, no rectifier, and what about coils? I couldn't find any, at least in the catalog. Looks like the gear ratio is a bit different.

Looks like the 1350 was nearer the tail end of those old tower of power outboards? In a nutshell what were the differences between the early 1000 and the 1350? Thanks for any tips!

size of the block 10 studs vs. 8 through the exhaust to mid plate, ignition system is completely different (no points), different fuel pumps and carburetors. Oh and a wee bit more gnarly too.

So no coils then huh? What does the 1350 use for an ignition system Jim? Magneto? I'm just guessing here. I have manuals downstairs, just too lazy to go look. I'll grab it tomorrow and take a look. These NAPA marine catalogs have a bunch of good info, so I figured I'd start there. Thanks!

1 big coil, a switch box, a rectifier, a stator, and there is a trigger in the distributor instead of breaker points. Thunderbolt ignition. Hopefully these links will work for you.

They both have 6 pistons. Thats about the only thing they share in common

the 1000 is 89 cubes the 1350 is 99 cubes

the 1000 is the old crossflow design piston. The 1350 was the new direct charge piston.

The pre 65 6's are quite different than the 1965 and later 6's

The 1350 is 4 generations of design newer than the old 1000. Each of those 4 steps things changed.

Even the 1250 and the 1350 do not share much of the same. Even tho they were made 1 year apart and are
both 99 blocks.
