TOPIC: How do I rescue a faceplate medallion???

How do I rescue a faceplate medallion??? 12 years 9 months ago #54988

I'm looking for ideas - proven or humorous - on how to safely remove one of the oval plastic medallions from a damaged faceplate so I can use it on a nice faceplate???
I know NYMarine has after-market ones, but I'm hoping to keep the depth & patina of an original medallion.
Thanks in advance everybody!

heat the back of the faceplate till it stinks, at this point you know the adhesive is soft and almost melting , using dacron fishing line (multistrand fine line)in a sawing motion back and forth under the emblem pressing towards the metal faceplate :woohoo:
the
I have used both silicone and shoegoo to glue them back in place there will be a smooth layer of Mercury adhesive still on the emblem ....leave it there

I did my last one with some nylon thred cold and it came off with little dificulty, but I bet the heat makes it easier. First one I did came off with a twist of my wrist.. it was a rather corroded face plate. I have only done two so Eager to hear other thaughts as well..
