Thanks Jim,
Also the insulation is mostly for sound insulation? Mine is shot and I think I will remove it is there any good material to replace that?...

Also While I am asking questions, is there another good source for the 1959 Blue top cowl Mercury Decals other than NY marine? And what material are the NYmarine decals? Can they be clear coated? Is there a water slide source?

Thanks again all.

I have a set of those Jesse. I think Peter does them in vinyl I could be wrong. His product is about the best I have seen though.

DO NOT use water slide decals, you will be sorry. I have restored several Marks in the past couple years, Peter's decals are the only ones I will use.

A set of the decals you are looking for. I think I got them from Peter. Vinyl blue Mercury. My 60/61 Merc 400's call for the black n red ones. I got these by mistake.

Ah ok so those are the NY marine ones? Do you have a pic of how the vinyl looks on the 400? also can you clear coat them or do they just go on top?

you can choose to clear coat or not. many solvents and the ethanol in gas will melt them. I don't clear coat mine, others do.

So I have the original Mark 35A faceplate in decent shape.. I was worried I couldnt do a good job on painting it and got a Merc 350 faceplate in nasty shape off ebay.. and painted it up. it actually came out ok. But I'm having trouble deciding if I should repaint the original.. What do you all think?
And then if I do repaint it the other Merc 350 faceplate with an .. OK paint job will be available. The tape I used left some lines when masking that didnt go totaly away with clearcoat and it has a cracked emblem, Paint is Duplicolor wimbeldon and true blue not black for the recesses and knob. If you have interest let me know and give an offer I should know if I am parting with it once I decide if I paint the other or not.
