TOPIC: Weight of early 1960's Mercury 700 LS

Does anyone know how muich an early 1960's Mercury 700 long shaft weighs? A good guess? I'm thinking about repowering and weight could become an issue. Thanks

Thanks! That's what I needed. I have a real interesting idea for repowering that I think will work out just fine now.

My 1967 Merc 650 weighed 222 lbs.

My 1963 Merc 850 weighs 246 lbs.

That's the weight of a dockbuster. Even then, I think Mercury was fudging - Ever tried to lift a 700 or 800 Dockbuster? If the 700 he has is FGS then it is more like 235 lbs. I have a 700FGS and an 800FGS (both late 1961) and they are heavy as hell.

Even with my limited computer skills,...I actually was able to print it and add it to my documents in the shop.
People are always asking about the weights and it sure is nice to have a list like this.
Is there any chance that there is a list of the '61ish and later Mercs - say up to the mid'80s?
It is really tough to balance an inline-6 on a bathroom scale.


I can't put them up on my shoulder any more and simply weigh them that way, subtracting my weight to determine the weight.
