so I asked a co worker if they got their lil boat all winterized..
said yeah...he said he ran antifreeze through it, and stabilized the fuel.

I have never heard anyone doing the antifreeze trick?
Have heard of people blowing air throw the intake and fogging the carbs and cylinders.

Does antifreeze in help anything? or will cause damage to anything?

When I had a inboard boat I would pour that pink RV antifreeze through it till it came out the outdrive. I never did much of anything to my outboards except tilt them down so they drained all the water out of them.

I believe Jack is right Matt, the anti-freeze deal is for inboard motors. There's a couple good threads on winterizing your outboard, here's one;
www.fiberglassics.com/glassic-forums/17-mercury-outpost/47908-winterization.html#47908
There is another back there somewhere, but I'll have to look for it. Basically, run the make sure the gas has stabilizer in it, fuel out, fog the cylinders through the carbs - then the spark plug holes, drain and change the lower unit lube, and make sure it is stored in the vertical position.

It's also a good time to go over all hoses, wiring, connections, etc. to check them carefully. Perform a good PM (Periodic Maintenance) now, and she'll be ready to go next spring!

Basically run the motor and spray fogging oil into carburetors untill fuel runs out of carburetors.---No need then to pull sparkplugs and add oil to cylinders as they will be well coated with oil from the running.
Store motor in normal running position ( down ) to drain water. Check gearcase to make sure there is no water present !!!
Turn flywheel slowly to drain waterpump.
One area of concern should be that of water between oil seals, it will freeze and may cock the seals.-The result is water will get into the gearcase and destroy it the following season.

I stand corrected Professor, thank you. There is no substitute for the years of experience you call on for contributing, we do appreciate your input.

I normally change out (or at least pull and inspect/clean) the spark plugs during this PM, and shoot the fogging spray in at that time before installing the fresh plugs. (WITH anti-seize compound on the threads, BTW). Guess it's probably overkill, but better too much than not enough, I guess. :unsure:

After fogging through the carburetors the cylinder walls and pistons will be loaded with oil !!!
That is how the lubrication principle of a 2 stroke works.
Absolutely no need to add more oil through plug holes. ---Unless of course you have a local mosquito problem at spring start-up.
