I got the mockup done on the 55. Here is just the shell. I am waiting on a lower seal for the powerhead, then I can put it all together.
You guys notice anything out of the ordinary? Other than a shop mess. I am building more stands for more Towers!

I see a chopped cav plate. A newer style 500 lower unit (the one with the fwd roller bearing) and a Thunderbolt tag on the side. I dont think the 55's had that.

the tag and controll rear mounts should be the same color as the cowl.

Thanks Jesse
This was not intended to be a restoration.
Just a little lipstick. I have traded this little guy and a boat for a 700FGS shorty. The gentleman was not worried about the cosmetics being perfect or Mercury correct. He just wants to go fishin'.
I sent him a couple shots and he is tickled.
I have been watching your thread on the 35. She is gonna be nice.
Something about an all white small block Merc.

Neil,

Here are some pics of my all original 55E just after I found this package in a barn last year for your reference. Don't have anything really focused on the motor but it will give you an idea of what it looked like originally. It is now tucked inside with the Merc Guru Tim Calmes for the winter to go over and get the starter fixed etc. Sorry I dont have time to reduce size to include here.

Thanks Tim
I remember your 55 and boat well.
I had picked up a little Larson and trailer with a dockbuster on it for little of nothing. I kept the dockbuster and have had the little Larson loitering in my shop for awhile. This little 55 I picked up on a Glasspar Avalon that was rotted to the ground. It runs well but looked rather ragged. I did some horse tradin' with a gentleman that was looking for a little boat to fish out of. He neither wanted or needed anything fancy. I swapped the Larson/55 for his 700FGS shorty. It will clear out a spot in the shop and I would rather have the 6 cylinder for the collection. That will give me a pair of 700's.
Hopefully I will put these twins on a boat before my 103rd birthday.
Oops, I was typing away and realized I was repeating myself.(Mental glitch)
