TOPIC: Transom clamp screw "T" grip handle

Transom clamp screw "T" grip handle 13 years 1 week ago #50030

I have a 1972 80 HP mercury. The transom clamp handles have been broken or should I say the "T" grip on the screw has broke leaving only the metal core of this grip. I would like to replace these and question how to remove and where to find replacements. Is there a way to remove the core of the grip and just replace this? Do you have to remove the "cup" that applies pressure to the transom and replace the whole assembly if so how do you remove the cup. Any help would be great

to removve the cup take a hammer and knock it off. the threads behind it will be damaged from previous use so grind the last 2-3 threads off before removing.replacement merc or eastcoastmarine.com or e bay make sure the diameter is the same many look the same but are different diameter.

some times you can get complete clamps easier and cheaper than thumb screws on e bay.
