As a kid i saw a B utility T-bone a 16in bass and it flipped the boat.

My local lake (Jackson) is famous for deadheads, (tree limbs, trees, volkswagens , floating debris at or just below the surface) as well. There are three rivers and one creek that feed it, all coming down through either cities or large suburban (residential) areas. Why people insist on throwing stuff like that in the lake escapes me, and frankly makes me MAD. I always carry a garbage bag in the boat, and often fish the junk out of the lake as I discover it. It pays to keep your eyes open, even when you're just "cruising"!

That sucks. Those late mod mids and lowers dont exactly grow on trees.

I count my blessings that while boating on the Mississippi River years ago the boat hit an oil soaked, water logged railroad tie at an angle rather than head on, causing no damage. Still see the spike sticking out of it.

Makes me wonder how the old marathon racers fared on the rivers back in the day. They were cooking right along most times..

My boating is in the familiar waters of the Mississippi, St. Croix, and the Minnesota River and I stay a safe distance from the shore. It's the water logged logs, dark stuff, and smaller stuff barely above the surface that causes problems. Also waves and going into the sun hide objects to be avoided.

I go out on the Christina River which runs through down town Wilmington Delaware (a teaming metropolis indeed). At times that river becomes strewn with floating debris, from boards to tree trunks to you-name-it-trash. Any time there is alot of rain in a short period, all the stuff on the banks gets pulled back into the river. I've roped and pulled phone pole size logs out of the channell. Yet, with junk in the water everywhere, there is still always some guy blasting alone in a canoe with a 250HP monster on it. More than once I've seen them come back on a rope.
