TOPIC: barn treasure mark 75

barn treasure mark 75 13 years 1 month ago #46998

Well after a few leads, I found a farmer with 2 old mercs  One is a 1959 I think, mark75 which ran when he put it away, but asusual its froze tight. The other is a mark78 which is a parts motor. Oh and I got a very nice set of controls to boot. The question is this motor salvagable or is a seized up motor pretty much just a parts motor?

Nice find! Hunting the treasure has always been my favorite part. Those are parts motors at a minium. I've seen grade "A" restored dockbusters bring a handsome price as of late. Of course, there are plenty of them sold for peanuts too - usally sold in a "parts " condition. I once sold a pair for 150 bucks.

Ditto - on the L/U ... gears could be stuck

JET.: CONGRATS, also like the SPLIT windshield Glastron . You have my Vote of the day . If motors are complete , just re-build the power heads , for even more value.. Parts motors would have large hole in block , or serious damage to me.

Taking the lower unit off is a great idea, I didn't even think about that. Unfortunately I won't be able to work on it for a couple weeks, but when I get a chance to really dive into it I'll give a full update :)

If you aren't going to get to them for a couple of weeks, during this time you could pull the plugs and get some Marvel in the cylinders for soaking. It certainly would not hurt.
Nice find, even for parts. The white motor with shocks looks to be a shorty, even better.

Well I got a chance yesterday to put the motors on the stand and drop the lower unit. g3jim you were right it was the lu that was froze and not the power head :) So I fogged the motor and put it away for the winter. Hopfully I can get the LU working over the winter. Any tips or tricks for disaemble would be welcome.
