Found this beast down the road for sale. I got a good deal due to the fact its a bit rough and the compression is pretty low. Should fix up nice tho.

The motor tag ser makes it a 1973 1500 but it has a newer replacement J block.

Looking at the location of the fuel pump it is not a 73, it's later. I know by 76 they had this single pump 73/74 they did not. Not sure about 75. Earlier 1500's had the two pumps on the upper two transfer port covers, and used the larger coil mounted over the fuel inlet. Later years had the small coil bolted to block, under the dist, had the back drag carbs and the single lower cowl mounted pump....that all said...NICE SCORE!!! You might not have the back drag carbs as the shorties were similar to the XS in many ways.

Ill elaborate on what I said earlier. Its a 1973 motor that was updated to a newer J block powerhead. THe J blocks started sometime in 1974-1975 then became the XS motor.

I believe someone blew this motor early then got a newer replacement block. The block has no serial number on it. It was originally a 1973 1500.

The only 2 fuel pump 1500 is the 1973. 1974 was the last BIG coil motor. 1975 was the newer small coil.

All early 1500's had the WMK carbs SHORT-XS and LONG FISHING. Not till later did they use different carbs.

SO the early long and short 1500's were the same as the XS motor except porting and LWPU. And the Early 1500's with a J block were all the same except the LWPU

Wiring looks good in it, at least by the pic ... so whats a good deal?

i located a 115, seller said it ran this past spring, but was removed from boat? has trim... they are unsure what they are worth.. and me I'm a bit green on actual prices.... if you don't want to broadcast you can in box me if you can help me out with figures..

Nice score Conrad.
You surely do have a knack for finding the 1500's.
