I just bought a 1400 Merc w/ power trim. Does anyone know if one of the old Kiekhaefer stands will hold it? I'm assuming it was made before the bigger motors like that were made.

Yep I have a 1100 and a 1500 on both of mine. They hold up fine. But for good measure I put two small 2x4's under the skeg to take some of the weight. Not needed but I do it anyway.

My outboard motor stand is probably overkill and could carry the heaviest motor. 5" lubricated cast iron wheels for ease in moving from garage to driveway, two stabilizer pads that screw up and down, and diamond plate floor. I work at a metal fabrication shop as their controller and it was constructed by one of the talented shop people.

so what does a controller actually do?
make sure that scrap metal is properly used?

very nice stand...looks like it could hold a V8 if need be.

I could drop my Subaru on your stand dpanky and it would come out just fine.

Matt, the controller makes sure the scrap metal and scrap cast iron wheels are properly used.

Milkdud, sure is nice not worrying about the stand tipping over. Now to find a place in the garage for it with the two cars inside for the winter.
