How do I get the lower drive shaft housing assembly off? Seems like clutch spring is holding it on. Thx, Joe

I do think you have to disconnect shift cable below the flywheel.
Or post pictures as to where you are on this project. |

Undoo the 2 bolts on the side of the lower shaft ,undoo the bolt in front of the alum trim fin .. then take the plastic plug out on top of the alum fin housing, use a deep well socket ...take the fin off.. Then under the fin... theres 1 more bolt .. and boompf
 the lower unit should come off !! |
