TOPIC: Mark 35A Oil Ratio

Mark 35A Oil Ratio 13 years 2 months ago #43775

Have restored a '59 Mark 35A and leaning towards running it at 32:1 mix ratio - looking for any other opinions.

If you have a specific oil that you can recommend that would be appreciated.

that will work well. 25-1 was the original but when merc came out with there 50-1 oil it was also a recomended at 50-1 i ran then at that for years without a problem but i now lean toward 40-1 with the new oils.only my opinion from a merc mechanic from the 60's - 70's.

I agree with Dave. I am leary of tlhe 50-1 ratio.
And I just love to smell and see "blue smoke" from a Merc!!!!

If you're not racing the engine, a high quality rated oil at 50:1 is perfectly fine. If you load the engine up with oil, you'll likely get more damage from stuck piston rings, than from scuffing at 50:1. If the engines would have been damaged from 50:1 Kiekhaefer never would have recommended it. But, ultimately it's your choice - run what makes you feel safe.
