This 400 was bought new at the 1960 London International Boat Show along with a factory built, but not finished, 15' Fairey Cinderella (later makers of the famous Ray Hunt hull designed Huntress, Hunstman, Swordfish etc etc.). The owner was a farmer & both boat & outboard sat, untouched, in a barn until 1987 when the present owner bought & finished her. She ran for the 1st time in 1988 & is reported to have started on the 3rd pull (manual start being here in the UK!). It was then put away again until the Henley Traditional Boat Rally two weekends ago when it had it's second ever outing, albeit a slow one on the River Thames. The motor is untouched apart from some minor paintwork after it got scratched & impeller etc.

I myself have owned one of these boats since 1975 & mine is also still not finished & has yet to hit the water!

I thought this may be of interest to some of you.

Geoff

Conrad, you took the words right out of my mouth!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Geoff, that is one beautiful combination. I am a big woody fan and nothing better than an old woody with a beautiful Merc on the back!

Please tell me you put in a new waterpump! Hate to see that beauty cook itself on a 50 year old impeller...

Thanks for the replies gentlemen, I only wish it were mine. It is a boat I have known about since '91 but only got to see her on the water & meet the owners a couple of weeks back, they are attending a CMBA meet in Cardiff (Torchwood central for those of who who have seen the program!)in a couple of weeks so I hope to get some pictures of her getting a move on. It has spurred me on now to get mine on the water for the first time ever since she was build in '59. I have a a choice of a '61 350, '64 500 or a '63 650 to mount on her, what a fun decision to have to make.

The owner knows all about impellers thankfully & so she is protected. Even the tank & decals look new - which I suppose is sort of is.
