hi, you have been alot of help to me in the past, and i need some more, i have a 1966 merc 500 and the serial # is 2108376 does this motor have points or electronic ign? thanks again. frog

Runs with a magneto -no battery required
Does have a set of points / coil and condenser

points set at .010 or 54 degrees.

thank you guys for the info. now i think i remember reading that you can take the mag cap and lower part of the mag off to replace the points, with out having to remove the timing belt. is that correct or did i dream that? thanks again. frog

yes
remove the 4 bolts holding the mag to the tower , when it drops you will see the shaft can only go back in one way ...there is no way to install it wrong, go forth

Nice looking motor and Glastron. Very similar to mine, as I have a 65 Merc 500 and 70 Glastron SkiFlite. Wish my 65 Merc was a true longshaft like yours. (Has 5" extension)
